HOW THE YOUTH ARE HELPING IN THE FIGHT OF COVID-19

COVID-19 pandemic | UNDP in KenyaAs the novel corona virus C(OVID -19) spreads around the world, youth all over the world are also taking part in fighting this pandemic.The youth in Kenya have not been left behind and are taking it among themselves to help their community fight this virus.They have started shearing basic protective measures with their communities, translating vital resources into local languages and launching campaigns to fight xenophobia and misinformation.The youth have also been advising the community to stay informed and ensure others do to this will help reduce the occurrence of debunk myths in the community.The community has also been advised to take action to keep the community safe and to speak up to ensure we do the right thing.
Other than this the youth have began using their talent to spread awareness regarding COVID-19, several upcoming and established artists have written and performed music that helps create awareness regarding the virus for example Masauti from Mombasa https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mw6R6xxYuck,Jimmy Gait from Nairobi.Other than making music many musicians have cancelled their concerts and tours and through their social media platforms  have advised their fans to stay home and properly sanitize .Some musicians have even made generous donations to help fight  this pandemic.
 Apart from music the youth have done some street arts on walls with images explaining the virus.A young fashion designer in Kibera Kenya, David Avido, has taken upon himself to make masks for the residents of Kibera slums after the government advised the public to begin wearing the masks in public, not only does he give the masks for free but also gives the public on the efficient knowledge on how to properly use the masks to prevent the spread of the virus https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lUo-2neWdXE. Some youth in Homabay county have also began an initiative to deliver basic essentials to its residents, they do using motorbikes where the public send their needs to the organisations number via sms with their address and later receive their needs. This has reduced congestion in Homabay and helped the public to stay home as per the directive of the government to void crowded areas and keep a social distance of on meter  from the person close to you. The COVID -19  pandemic is the glaring rampant global health crisis of our time many cases and deaths are raising daily in the world,in Africa and more specifically in Kenya.The pandemic is a poignant contagious wave neither choosing race,gender,age nor status.It affects all, the youth are just as vulnerable as everybody else . Just as the World Health Orgnasition (WHO) Director General Tedros Ghebreyesus warned that young people are invincible and should take the pandemic just as serious.Thus the youth should also take care and help in any means possible to curb the spread of the virus.
