TOXIC RELATIONSHIPS IN UNIVERSITIES.

When one hears of a relationship all that comes to the mind is love,fun,laughter and so many other nice things.But what is really the meaning of a relationship,when one is in a romantic relationship it practically means one is able to share affection,mutual interest and even intimacy. A relationship has several steps and it would eventually lead to a healthy relationship and eventually a long term commitment. What's a healthy relationship? This is  when two people develop a connection based on mutual respect,trust,honestly and support. When the opposite of this happens the relationship is reffered to as an unhealthy. Many people stay in unhealthy relationships without even knowing it.

Here are some characteristics of an  unhealthy relationships :

  1. physical violence
  2. Dishonesty between the partners
  3. Disrespect
  4. Intimidation between the partners
  5. Harrasment
  6. Sexual violence
  7. Dependence on the other partner
  8. Lack of fairness between the partners
  9. Hostility

An unhealthy relationship does not make us feel good or loved but makes us feel suffocated and used. It is important one corrects this before it leads to a toxic relationship which is a worse case of an unhealthy relationship.
A toxic relationship is characterized by behavior on the part of the toxic partner that are emotionally and not infrequently physically. A toxic relationship is characterised by insecurity,self centeredness, dominance and control. A toxic relationship can affect someone alot and more so emotionally,it affects ones confidence and self esteem and may lead to either suicide or even homicide. In the recent past we have had cases of love gone sour and someone having died due to avoidable circumstances. Its a pity that many dont take seriously the effect that a toxic relationship may have on their lives until its to late.

Here some advices to follow to have a healthy relationship and avoid toxic ones :


  1. Love yourself. Being comfortable with who you ate means you'll be a happier partner 
  2. Communication. Communication is key talk to your partner.
  3. Be honest.
  4. Give each other space.
  5. Agree to disagree
  6. Forgive and ask for forgiveness when wrong.Always support each other.
